We travelled up to Poolewe at the end of April with the promise forecasted for very fine sunny weather. The forecast was very accurate when we parked up the motor near the wee shop and immediately settled for summer mode of dress for the walk in with rucksacks filled with camping kit and all the rest. I had been into the area by this approach nearly forty years prior, reached the buildings at Kernsary, and we were asked not to go in any further with there being a stag shoot about to take place...it was early August!
I had also been into the area a few times from both the Shenavall bothy and from the Kinlochewe end with a walk over Slioch. This time we were focussed on the three Corbetts situated on both sides of Fionn Loch.
The walking route out from Poolewe and return.
Our Rucksacks with camping kit were left at a path junction for collection later.
On the approach to the top area of Beinn Airigh Charr the view over the many islands in Loch Maree was of great interest. Before we reached the summit there was an increasing smokey haze developing over the Torridon hills. We later found out that the plantations at the lower end of Glen Torridon were being burned during a fire.
The fine view over Fionn Loch from near to the summit of Beinn Airigh Charr.
Our camp for two days situated at the top end of Fionn Loch.
Progress in the area is made easy by using the network of stalkers tracks so much that only the final sections on the hills have to be walked without paths and of course at that altitude the vegetation is of low height so easy to walk over.
Carnmore and Torr na H'iolaire.
The hunters Lodge below Carnmore.
The Ghost slabs at the end of the loch.
The causeway between Fionn and Dubh lochs with the crags of Ben Lair above.
On route for Beinn a'Chraisgein Mor on a fabulous stalkers track...Beinn Airigh Charr above the loch.
