One of the fine houses on the edge of the village of Saint-Martin Vesubie.
We reached the Village on a local bus from Nice.
The village of St. Dalmas a little higher up from Vesubie.
Village flora.
Accommodation at the hostel of the Gentleman who raises black horses.
The Belvedere village close to the hostel.
The path up to the Refuge des Merveilles with ruined barracks and military buildings scattered around.
Some winter snowfields to cross over when approaching the Pas du Diable.
A reasonable path when out of the snow-cover.
Even better when height is lost....the two Swiss folks were spot on when navigating with the French maps loaded up on their modern phone
Still cold enough in early June.
Refuge des Merveilles.
A wide variety of flora.
Ruined barracks not too far from the French and Italian border.
More barracks and a US Stuart tank close to the Vacherie Vielles.
Descending to Sospel...a long day out walking.
We arrived in Sospel on the day celebrating the 800th. anniversary of the toll across the Bevera river crossed by the mule trains carrying salt from Nice to Piedmont.
A fine concert given by the OSL Orchestra from Nice in the ancient Cathedral...I think now downgraded from that status. Lots of the music created by Ennio Morriconi.
A quiet terrace for the tent close to the Mediterranean.
